For the second time this week I have had to rescue a distressed Great Crested Grebe from the causeway tarmac. Despite continuous flapping these birds seem unable to take off or climb the concrete wall. Quite why this is happening I'm not sure but other people have reported the same experience in previous years. A large jacket over the bird will calm it down and allow you to safely return it to the water's edge.
