Velvet Scoter fem 14:53 on the Heronry lake which is the first pit on the right viewed from the access road off of the A4155.

The lake has been turned into an activity centre so viewing is a lot more difficult than it used to be. There is a permitted path c.50m beyond the main gate. Go through there and then look through the fence. Bird was towards the left end of the lake. There is open swimming on new years day so don't know how that will affect viewing (and the bird). There's signs saying no parking along the road. Not really a problem if the centre is closed. Further down the road to the marina there is space for 3 cars. Walk back from there. Alternatively park on resident stre

Adult Med Gull Pit 60 Standlake

Seen whilst doing the WeBS count. Think it's 3rd of the year here (MC=2 SNT 1). Not a bad haul for the pit I think (??). Otherwise, is it me, or have Meds been a bit thin on the ground generally in Oxon this year. And, has the increase in visitors to Farmoor led to fewer gulls there?
