Wytham: Field Station: 10th September

Wytham: Field Station
20 Cattle Egret: Same location where I saw them yesterday, just upstream of Hagley Pool by Thames path. They were hidden in long grass amongst the cattle with only a few visible at any one time. It was only when they occasionally flew up that the number of birds was apparent. 15:00.
60 Yellow Wagtail: Up to 60 birds sitting on power lines over the field with the cattle egrets though they were mobile and often flew down into the grass. I confirmed the identification when a group of them flew onto the metal fencing surrounding the new channel being dug from the Thames to Seacourt/Wytham stream at Hagley pool making them much easier to see. SP472102. 15:00.

  1. Wytham seems to be the wintering grounds for the Otmoor/Blenheim birds.
