Fascinating! The Res was calm and water flat and I was checking every damn bird on F2 constantly between 2 and 4pm to find anything that might have looked remotely like a Feruginous Duck after the report earlier this week. The Slav was on the south/SE side, the RN Grebe in the SW chasing Little Grebe frequently. I never saw any Scoter and I wonder did it make a brief flying visit ?
Exactly. A couple of Tufties looking scaup like but nowt with even the hint of any fruggie characteristics to explain the possibility mentioned a couple of days back.
BUT on F1 between 4pm and dusk was the far more interesting number of Common Gulls, with as large a size variation between individuals as I have ever seen anywhere. The large ones being very obviously darker mantled than the typical smaller ones (judged against the Black-headed 'standard'). I presume these are very good candidates for heinei sub-species. Gulls... always knock Ducks into the sidelines any day of the week !

Gulls... always knock Ducks into the sidelines any day of the week !
