Lark Hill 20th August

4+ Redstart
2 Whinchat
Lesser Whitethroat
4 Willow Warbler
Raven

Also an intriguing heard-only over with a rasping, House Sparrow-like call (recalling Richard's Pipit somewhat), but couldn't pick up on the bird.

  1. More great records Leo. We walked the full length of the track late morning - to the B4494 and back and saw pretty well nothing. Maybe they had moved on, or am I missing something?!

  2. Hi Steve, it can definitely be tricky. Whinchats are in the wheat field to the west of the main track - third field south after the reservoir. There has been a juv male Redstart in the dip half way to the Chain Hill junction for the last week (it calls a lot), and at least three more along the track that runs parallel east of the main track. Lesser Whitethroat was there as well, and another Saxicola chat that was too brief to identify. Absolutely nothing at the reservoir today. Hope that helps a bit if you're up there again soon!...
