Standlake: Standlake Common: 13th April
Standlake: Standlake Common Moorhen: A new and regular visitor to our garden where it feeds with the finches . We only have a small pond which it seems to enjoy the nearest lakes are a km away. Is this unusual? SP390029. 10:28.
Thanks Pete. It’s the first time in 20 years I’ve seen one . I know mallards do this but I thought moorhens were rather shyer. I’ll keep my open for some more in a few weeks time!
Not at all Anthony, a friend of mine had one nesting in their walled back garden next to a really tiny pond a long way from any other water.
