Cothill Lesser Spotted Success

The Cothill Reserves are full of perfect Lesser Pecker habitat, but no luck over past couple of years. So I followed the BBOWT 'new' leafleted 'Cothill Fen Wild Walk' linking route today and found success at this location. Pick up the leaflet at any of the three reserve entrances shown on the map link. The bird was located in area shown on the Leaflet's Stage 5 map at 2.15pm. Now for that Hawfinch Colin Williams saw at Dry Sandford Pit....

Banbury 06th December

Six Waxwings on Highlands at 10:10, near to junction for Harlequin Way. Only there for 5 minutes and they flew south. Stayed for an hour to see if they came back but they didn't. Whilst there I was entertained watching 2 Fieldfares very strongly trying to defend the berry trees from 3 Redwings, 10+ Blackbirds and 30+ Starlings. There are good numbers of House sparrows in the area and I estimated 50+. Was surprised to see 2 Great Spotted Woodpeckers there (2 males). There was also a Jay foraging on the roadside verge and a Buzzard went over.

Searching the nearby roads there was no sign of the Waxwings.
