Warburg Reserve - Friday 31st July 2026

For the second year in a row the Hawfinches have successfully bred here at Warburg This is due to the woodland management by BBOWT in particular the Hornbeam. Witnessed today - Hawfinch x 3 (m f + juvenile), Bullfinch x 4 (2m f + juvenile), Treecreeper, Nuthatch, Song Thrush, Marsh Tit, Coal Tit, Green Woodpecker, Chiffchaff, Chaffinch (m f + juvenile), Red legged Partridges x 8. I will add that the hide on the reserve is quite small and at 0600am today it was standing room only. I would ask that photogtaphers be considerate to all that visit the hide in particular families now that the school holidays are with us. Many thanks.

Redstart - 2 juvs in hedge line near Field Barn Farm.

Churn: 30th July

3 Stonechat: A nice male, with at least two juv's, perched on a bramble bush just beyond metal barn. Alternating between the brambles, the large weed patch by the barn and, various spots on the road. SU513831. 15:30.
Whinchat: A juv in the large weed patch (mostly Hogweed) nr the stacked bales adjacent the remnant muck heap. Very illusive and hard to get a clear view. SU514828. 18:30.

Otmoor Late July

The four Cranes that are being seen flying between feeding areas on the moor are a home grown family. Ted and his partner have raised two chicks to flying which is a major achievement and a real indication of the richness of the habitat. Otmoor has now raised four cranes to adult over the last eight years.
