Colour ringed Sanderling at Farmoor

This Sanderling was on the causeway this morning. The unique combination of colour rings has enabled the bird to be traced back to its original ringing date when it was ringed as a nesting female at Zackenberg in northern Greenland on 8th July 2011 as part of a scientific study. It has not been sighted away from the breeding grounds.

Found a female Bearded Tit along the bridleway this morning at about 10.30.
Ian Lewington cannot remember any  other spring or summer record in oxon for this species.
Lets hope it hangs around and finds a friend.

Juvenile Swallow

Vile weather all day but great conditions for watching hirundines and swifts. Most surprising was a juvenile Swallow. Hard to imagine where this individual has come from, surely too cold and too early in the year for a UK bred bird....

8 Common Tern, 3 Whimbrel, 4 Ringed Plover & 2 Turnstone.

The Channel Wagtail is visiting the reservoir regularly but is flying off over to fields adjacent to the B4044 where it is perhaps breeding......

Black necked Grebes still present on F2 early evening

Probable Whiskered Tern early evening seen briefly but looked good.
Picked up as it flew over the western end of F2 and the causeway
before dropping out of sight below the horizon. Despite subsequent
searching there was unfortunately and frustratingly no further sign.
