Larkhill 22nd September

YELLOW BROWED WARBLER found this afternoon by Ian Smith.

After a 3 hour wait it called and showed for thirty seconds at 1838 then at c18:45 it was seen to fly high south (per Ewan, Mark Merritt, Leo Bateman).

Still present 15:30 though mobile and elusive (per Badger, Lew, Clackers).

Park next to the underground reservoir at Lark Hill then continue along main track for c200 yds and view small copse and scrub on the left adjacent to the derelict farm buildings.

CONVOLVULUS HAWK MOTH- Very large migrant from Africa with a 12cm wing span. Feeding on Petunia in garden using its long proboscis on and off between 19:30-21:30. Seen on the south coast but probably a real rarity in Oxon. 21:00.

Two Common Snipe seen on the causeway today was a unusual record. The only other time that I have seen Snipe here was on  29th November 2010 when both Jack and Common Snipe were seen.
