Farmoor Reservoir 4th March



Rock Pipit 2 

The one pictured a 'Scandinavian' Rock Pipit Anthus p.littoralis. 
I suspect the other one was also a littoralis 

Both on the F1 side of the central causeway

  1. Nice shots! Doesn't petrosus remain on coast Ewan, meaning all/ most inland birds are littoralis, its just that some of them get the more flashy summer plumage whereas others don't? Or is my memory failing me/out of date?

Hi Mick Thanks.I have long suspected that most of the Rock Pipits that arrive at Farmoor are migratory littoralis but many are not as obvious as the one pictured above.The other bird present was less coloured although did show slight signs of littoralis.Various ID Guides mention that some are best left to species level when encountered
