Standlake Pit 60: 12th January

Standlake Pit 60
White-fronted Goose: Came in with flock of greylags c 3pm. WhatsApp exchange showed there were still 3 by the village church so 4 in area. 22:02.
3 Shelduck: Sleeping on ice as 90% of water on pit frozen (ditto adjacent pits). They must have left whilst I walked between the hides, as they were gone when I opened flaps at second hide. 22:02.
6 Goldeneye: 2m 4f type. Getting scarce at pit these days. Modest numbers of pintail, teal, wigeon, gadwall, shoveler, mallard, goosander and even fewer tufted and pochard. 22:02.
Marsh Harrier: cc. Was feeding on a carcase on the ice but chased off by a buzzard. Too quick to age etc. Crown pretty ginger. 22:02.
Water Rail: Heard. 22:02.
Kingfisher 22:02.
Snipe: On SSSI field. 22:02.
4 Yellowhammer: Top of Langley Lane with linnets, fieldfare and redwing. The cold has brought a slight influx of thrushes. Blackbirds very obvious in the area. 22:02.
2 Great White Egret 22:02.
Little Egret: Feeding in slightly thawed SSS1 field. 22:02.
