A hoax or a genuine mis-id?

Yesterday a photo and comments were posted on the “Cholsey Village” Facebook page regarding a White-tailed Eagle.

The comment was “Spotted this fella yesterday at the top of Westfield lane while heading for the A417. A bit strange that a Sea Eagle is in the middle of the countryside! He seems to have taken up residence”

A couple of us have challenged and asked questions regarding the sighting but so far there has been no reply from the finder.

I managed to track down the photo used to a Raptor persecution web page dated 2014 and the photo was taken by Mike Watson in Scotland.

There seems to be an idea that Eagles are frequent in the area so I am going to post a few facts on some local FB pages.

Quail singing from South of Ridgeway

Lucky Swift, Headington 6th July am

As I walked into my road after shopping in Headington this morning, a swiftlet fell out its nest in the apex of a gable. It almost hit me! My neighbour who lives in the house and who feels very privileged to have swifts nesting in his roof, got a long ladder and we returned the bird to the nest. I hope that the parents return soon and feed it. The gale force winds of the last few days may have made feeding and getting back difficult.had it fallen earlier or later it might still be on the ground or in a cat or Magpie!
A beautiful bird with all feathers fringed with white and probably not more than a week or two from fledging.

We are delighted to announce that we are able to open up the visitor trail to the viewing screens.  Some amendments have been made at the viewing screens, the first screen we are allowing people to stand in the starling viewing area, and the second screen we are allowing people to stand on the right hand side but still behind the screening.  There is need for a massive shout out to the volunteers and staff that have worked incredibly hard in 30 degrees heat to cut back the vegetation and grass, to make the path as safe as possible.  I am sure you are all desperate to get down there and discover all the amazing wildlife that has been hidden away for these past 3 months.

Thanks
