Excellent stuff Adam and some great pics from various county birders. OT Dove bird of the year? Rarest perhaps. Since I couldn't summon up the enthusiasm to go and queue up to see it, it wouldn't be my choice! Regards
Fair question Jason. Short-eared Owls at Otmoor recently in cool winter light were stunning. Finding a Little Owl nest with chicks was also pretty special, and no queues for either!!! Neither very rare but the experiences provided a bit of a buzz for this old git :) I even got excited by finding a Coot nest with 15 eggs in (which is rare). At the risk of alienating all the best birders in the county - at least Adam didn't choose a gull ;-) Calm down guys, it was tongue in cheek!
Lol! Of course I really wanted to choose Caspian Gull (which would of course win every year) but thought that I better have a more balanced approach ;-)
I suppose that I could have chosen Pallid Harrier or Citrine Wagtail as county Bird of the Year but the former was only seen by one person and the latter only by a few whereas the Dove obliged us by staying around for quite some time so that anyone who wanted to could have seen it.
Awesome mate and nice choice of music :-)

I've got to ask Steve...
ReplyDeleteWhat was your bird of last year?

Yeah Pallid, that WOULD have been the one for me! Thankfully had cracking views in Hungary instead. Great bird.
ReplyDeleteGreat video, it almost makes Oxon look like a good place to go birding! New Years Resolution: must get out of Cuddesdon more often...
