Are Avocets kept in captivity? For a duck I can understand the link between being ringed and assuming it's an escapee but I'm somewhat surprised about this for an Avocet. I would be interested to hear what others might think.
Hi Adam. Yes. Avocets are regularly kept in captivity. Slimbridge has them among other places. This twitter link says that the aviary at Bristol zoo holding the avocets collapsed under snow recently so they probably escaped from there? https://mobile.twitter.com/bristolbirding/status/946471013780525058 https://mobile.twitter.com/bristolbirding/status/946471013780525058

The more I learn the more it seems that there's virtually nothing that isn't kept somewhere by someone!
