Subject: Odd bird

Hi Adam and Jason,
I wonder if you or any of your readers would be able to aid in the identification of a mystery bird.
My wife and I have seen it on  several occations since early January whilst out walking our dogs
around Kirtlington quarry.
My wife refers to it as ''the pretty bird'' but we would like to give it its proper name if possible?
The bird is about the size of a sparrow with red wings but we are unable to find it in our bird book
and did wonder if it could be an escape from a local aviary!
Please find attached photograph.
Regards
Colin Greaves

  1. Immediate reaction, it's April 1st! Lovely picture of a Wallcreeper, much better than the ones I took a few weeks ago in the Sierra de Guara, northern Spain.

  3. Its the Bampton Bollox Bird we get dozens of them in Bampton but strangely only on this one date when they congregate on roadside posts stopping the traffic due to their bright red wings being taken for traffic lights the good news is they will all be gone by tomorrow.

It's actually a porcelain Worcester figureen photographed
at Radley in the week. We know that a few did indeed fall for it and we hope no offence was caused.Sincere apologies to the fella who actually went to Kirtlington Quarry this
